Conducting with Purpose, Process, and Passion
In this session, Dr. Galván will share ideas about the building blocks that lead to inspiring performances in a way that engages and enlightens the singers in the process. She will provide ways of giving ownership to the singers so that the process is collaborative and singers develop musical independence. She will also demonstrate how to develop the sound of the choir on a daily basis and encourage confidence in each singer, never sacrificing the individual voice for the chorus. She will address physical conducting based on thorough score study that will encourage musicality and vocal freedom. She will work through several compositions (music provided for participants) demonstrating specific examples of processes that lead to expressive performances. The participants will be actively involved in the session. Music will be varied in difficulty and voicing. This session has been presented at several state conferences with excellent reception. The audience included beginning conductors all the way to highly accomplished conductors, and positive comments came from people with a wide variety of experience and skill level.
