Children's and Community Youth Choirs

Welcome one and all to the Children’s and Community Youth Repertoire & Standards page for ACDAEast.  As you can see from the title we have a new name.  The National R&S Committee spent most of the last two years researching a new name that would better reflect our mission as conductors of children and youth involved in church, school and community choirs.  We are pleased at our final effort and happy for the support that was extended to our committee from Tim Sharp and our National Board.

2010 was a wonderful year for us in the Eastern Division.  We had an incredible Divisional Conference in Philadelphia (in spite of the blizzard) with many offerings for our R&S area.  We also witnessed the launching of the National Children’s & Community Youth Retreat in January which was held in Cincinnati.  It was a wonderful gathering of many people and communities – conductors, composers, organizations and teachers – with a common interest in music-making with children and youth.  The National Committee and Robyn Lana, National R&S Chair for Children’s and Community Youth Choirs are busy planning for the next retreat, which will be held in Denver, Colorado in January 2012.

As we look ahead to our National Convention in Chicago, please take note of the date: March 9-12, 2011.  It will be a wonderful conference in a city that celebrates the arts throughout the year.  Also, please plan on sending your students audition information for the National Children’s Honor Choir, conducted by Henry Leck.

It is my privilege to serve as your R&S Chair for another term.  Our R&S area is as strong as we want it to be.  Please e-mail me with questions, ideas, pleas for help, etc.  Allow our committee (myself & each state chair in the Eastern Division) to be a resource for you.  Let us know your needs.
