Eligibility and Expectations"Ben Franklin"

  • Treble singers age 10 and up to and including age 16 as of February 13, 2010 may apply.
    •  
  • Singers must be members in good standing of their sponsoring musical organizations.
    •  
  • Singers are responsible for all expenses incurred, including the application fee ($30.00), registration fee ($270.00), hotel costs (see housing information) and personal transportation costs.
    •  
  • Singers must be well-prepared on all music prior to arrival.  Re-auditions will take place before the first rehearsal on Wednesday, February 10.  Singers who are not prepared will not be allowed to participate in the honor choir.

  • Singers in 8th-grade and below must have a parent representative staying with them in the room at the Courtyard.
    •  
  • Singers in 10th-grade and above will be housed in quad, triple or double rooms at the Marriott. Singers in 10th-12th grades will be supervised by ACDA chaperones. 
    •  
  • Singers 9th-grade and above may choose EITHER to stay with a parent representative OR be housed with the high school singers at the Marriott where they will be supervised by ACDA chaperones.

  • Singers are expected to abide by all ACDA Honor Choir policies. If rules are broken, singers will be sent home at their personal expense.
    •  
  • Accepted singers are expected to register online and make online hotel reservations.
    •  
  • All information regarding the Honor Choir experience will come through the ACDA Sponsor. Singers should check regularly with the sponsor and on the Honor Choir Announcement webpage (acdaeast.org) for updated information.

Important Dates

  • Results of the audition will be emailed to ACDA sponsors on or before September 1, 2009. Rosters will be posted on the ACDA website. Singers should check with their sponsors for results.

Elaine Quilichini, Conductor

Elaine Quilichini

Elaine Quilichini is recognized for her exceptional musicianship and distinguished work with choral ensembles.  She founded and is Artistic Director of the Calgary Girls Choir, one of Canada’s most dynamic youth music programs.  In addition to her private music studio, she directs the University of Calgary’s Women’s Choir, and edits her signature choral series published by Alliance Music Publishing, Houston, Texas.

Ms. Quilichini is also Artistic Director of the Nebraska Wesleyan University Summer Youth Choral Program and the Summer Kodály Programs at Wichita State University.  She continues to serve the summer program at the New England Conservatory in Boston. Ms. Quilichini has conducted numerous state, provincial and national honor choirs in Canada, the United States and abroad. She has twice had the privilege of conducting the National Kodaly Honor Choirs at national OAKE conferences. In 2007 the Calgary Girls Choir was “choir in residence” at the national OAKE conference in Chicago.

This season Ms. Quilichini was privileged to guest conduct high school honor choirs for the 50th Anniversary of the Saskatchewan Music Educators’ Association, the Asian Pacific Activities Conference in Osaka, Japan and the Wisconsin middle school all state honor choir. In October 2008 Ms. Quilichini will serve as an adjudicator at the Ansilta Choral Festival in Argentina. The University of Sao Paolo has invited Ms.Quilichini and the Calgary Girls Choir to teach, demonstrate and perform for university students and music educators from all over Brazil. This unique invitation acknowledges their role as models on the international choral stage.  In April 2008 Ms.Quilichini led the Calgary Girls Choir for the third time to a first place win in the prestigious CBC National Radio Competition for amateur choirs in Canada.

Ms.Quilichini will be conducting two regional ACDA honor choirs in 2010.

Kathleen Bartkowski, Accompanist

Kathleen BartowskiKathleen Bartkowski graduated in May of 2004 with a Master of Music in Piano Accompanying from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Connecticut.

Presently, Kathleen is kept busy as the Staff Accompanist at Ledyard High School, Ledyard, Connecticut. She is the accompanist for the University Chorale at Central Connecticut State University, and the Vernon and Mystic River Chorales, auditioned community choirs based in Vernon and Mystic, as well as Voce, a professional performing arts organization based in Hartford, Connecticut. She is frequently invited to accompany choral festivals, musicals, and other school ensembles.

Among the many groups Kathleen has accompanied are the Vermont Opera Theater, Mak'hela (Jewish Chorus of Western Massachusetts), and numerous school and community groups. She has played for American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and Music Educators National Conference (MENC) honors choirs and conference sessions on the local, state and national levels, and has traveled with the choirs to Europe.

For over twenty years, Kathleen has served churches throughout New England as organist and choir director. At this time, she is the Organist and Celebrate Accompanist for St. Luke Lutheran Church in Gales Ferry, Connecticut. She currently serves on the Connecticut ACDA Executive Board as a Member-At-Large. Her professional achievements are recognized in Who's Who in America.
